But when you buy Indian hair online from another country, you're trusting a seller you can't visit, a courier you didn't choose and a customs office you've never dealt with. This guide explains what to check, what shipping and customs really involve, and how to avoid the most common mistakes.

Why buy hair from India

Indian hair is valued for its natural strength, soft texture and range of natural patterns, from straight to wavy to curly. What to check before you order

A good product page should answer most of your questions. If it doesn't, ask before you pay.

• Fibre content. The listing should say 100% human hair. Ours is, with no synthetic or animal fibre blended in.
• Weight and length. Check the grams per bundle and whether length is measured stretched or as the hair naturally falls (curly hair looks shorter than its stretched length).
• Drawing. Single drawn hair tapers toward the ends; double drawn keeps more fullness. Choose based on the look you want.
• Real photos and videos. Look for close-ups in natural light, not just styled model shots.
• Clear policies. Shipping times, costs, customs responsibility and returns should all be written down before you buy.

Understanding customs and import taxes

Every country sets its own rules on imported goods. Duties and import taxes are decided by the destination country, not by the seller, and they're paid by the buyer. The amount depends on where you live, the value of the order and local thresholds.

How to prepare

• Check your country's customs website for rules on importing personal goods and the threshold above which duties apply.
• Make sure your name, address and phone number are complete and correct, so the courier can contact you if needed.
• Keep your phone on during delivery week. Couriers sometimes ask for payment of duties or identity details before release.

Matching colour and texture from a distance

When you can't touch the hair before buying, matching takes a little more care. These steps help:

1. Photograph your own hair in daylight, near a window, without filters. Indoor lighting changes colour dramatically.
2. Look at the hair where extensions will sit, usually the middle and back sections, not just the front.
3. Match your natural texture, or the texture you'll style it to most often. Compare straight, wavy and curly options side by side.
4. Ask the seller. A good supplier will look at your photos and tell you honestly what's closest.

Natural, uncoloured raw hair varies slightly from batch to batch, because it comes from different donors. If you're ordering several bundles for one install, buy them together so they're matched from the same lot.

Returns: read the policy before you open the package

Hair is a personal-care product, and returns are stricter than for clothing. At Hair Trends India:

• Opened, worn, washed, coloured or altered hair can't be returned.
• Customised items are non-returnable.
• If the wrong item arrives, report it within 2 business days and we'll fix it at our cost.
